CEREC is a state-of-the-art system that uses CAD/CAM technology to design and fabricate ceramic restorations in a single visit to the dentist. Vernon Sheen, DMD, was the first dentist in Annapolis to embrace this technology and has been working with it for many years.
Dr. Sheen’s experience with CEREC allows him to create restorations that look completely natural and rival those fabricated traditionally in a dental laboratory. CEREC is an essential technology for restorative dentistry services. Patients can replace a lost crown, repair a damaged tooth or enhance the appearance of their smile with same-day results in our Annapolis dentist office.
The Advantages of using CEREC and CAD/CAM Technology
CEREC, along with CAD/CAM technology, offers many advantages for Dr. Sheen and his patients. This system does not require messy impressions but instead utilizes digital impressions. This means more comfort for you and better accuracy for the treatment planning phase of your crown, inlay, or onlay.
It also offers Dr. Sheen the ability to see multi-dimensional images of your mouth, gums, and teeth. This will ensure that your dental restoration is more precise, which offers the patient better, more comfortable results.
High-quality porcelain is used to fabricate aesthetically pleasing restorations that will blend in with your natural smile. All this is achieved in just a single day instead of waiting weeks for the restoration to be fabricated in a dental lab.
Same-day Dental Crown
Thanks to CEREC technology and CAD/CAM technology, Dr. Sheen can offer his patients a quality dental crown during a single visit with great precision and predictable results. With this advanced dental technology, the crown will fit perfectly over a decayed or damaged tooth, eliminating the need for a temporary crown.
In just one visit, we can design, fabricate and then immediately place a porcelain dental crown. You can eat and drink normally following your appointment with little to no pain or sensitivity. The benefits of same-day dental crowns using CEREC include the following:
- No messy impression trays with easy digital impressions
- High-quality materials for a natural-looking crown or restoration
- Saves time and money- no return visit required
- No uncomfortable temporaries
The CEREC same-day restoration procedure will begin with tooth preparation. Dr. Sheen will then take easy and convenient digital impressions of your teeth. These are immediately viewable digital images that he will use to plan and design a custom dental crown, inlay, or onlay to your exact specifications.
When your custom restoration is designed, we will send it on to our in-office milling system. Using the CEREC milling machine, your ceramic restoration will be fabricated right in our Annapolis dentist office while you wait.
Once complete, Dr. Sheen will place your crown, inlay, or onlay then make adjustments for fit. This is to ensure that your crown will blend with your smile and provide a comfortable and stable bite.
After both you and Dr. Sheen are happy with the fit and appearance, the process is completed after the restoration is permanently attached and polished for a natural appearance and smooth surface.
Are CEREC crowns as good as traditional crowns?
Yes. Same-day dental crowns made using CEREC technology are as good as traditional crowns. Although, CEREC crowns can only be made of porcelain material, whereas traditional crowns can be made of different materials. CEREC same-day crowns are the most natural-looking restorations offered today.
Does insurance cover CEREC crowns?
Yes. Your dental insurance provider can elect to cover part or all of the cost of CEREC same-day crowns. Most dental insurance providers will cover any dental crowns because they are considered a necessary treatment to maintain good oral health. Consult with your specific dental insurance plan to see if they cover the cost, or give us a call today.
How long do CEREC crowns last?
CEREC dental crowns can last for about 10 to 15 years. This is an average estimate. The life of your dental crown can be longer or shorter than 10 to 15 years, depending on how well you take care of the restoration. Although the restoration does not need special care, you can elongate the health of your crown and teeth with diligent dental hygiene and routine visits to the dentist.
