CEREC is a state-of-the-art system that uses CAD/CAM technology to design and fabricate ceramic restorations in a single visit to the dentist. Vernon Sheen, DMD was the first dentist in Annapolis to embrace this technology and has been working with it for many years.

Dr. Sheen’s experience with CEREC allows him to create restorations that look completely natural and rival those fabricated traditionally in a dental laboratory. Benefits of CEREC
How It Works
  • Benefits of CEREC

Patients benefit from conservative CEREC Restorations in a number of ways:

    • The CEREC system is versatile giving Dr. Sheen the ability to make a wide range of ceramic restorations including dental crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays.
    • CEREC restorations are made from high quality, durable ceramics that are anti-abrasive and plaque resistant, and made to match the natural color of each patient's teeth.
    • The CEREC restoration process takes place in just one visit which typically means few anesthetic injections, minimal amounts of drilling and less time spent in the dental chair.
  • The CEREC Restoration process starts with a topographical laser scan of the tooth that needs work. Dr. Sheen then cleans out and removes the portion of tooth that is being restored, and scans the tooth again. The information from both scans is then merged into one image, and sent over to the milling unit that sculpts the porcelain restoration as an exact match of the pre-existing tooth prior to the procedure. The new restoration is then bonded to the base structure of the original tooth with permanent adhesives.

  • CEREC Dentistry FAQs

Does it really take one visit?
That's right! Annapolis dentist Dr. Vernon Sheen can design, fabricate and place your ceramic restoration in just one office visit. This is possible thanks to advanced CAD/CAM technology and a sophisticated milling unit.

    Are CEREC restorations more expensive?
In general, CEREC crowns, inlays and onlays cost the same or less than traditional restorations made in a dental laboratory. We use the same advanced materials, but because the procedure takes just one visit, we need less injections, drilling and chair time. This can end up to be a cost saving for some patients.

Do you make all dental crowns in your office?
Dr. Sheen will select the best type of dental crown or other restoration for your needs. While we do make many of the dental crowns right in our Annapolis dental office, it may not be the best process for everyone.

How long do CEREC restorations last?
CEREC restorations will last as long as those that are made in a dental laboratory. Dr. Sheen's goal is for all restorations, regardless of how they are made, to last for many years. You can help to ensure the longevity of these restorations by visiting the dentist on a routine basis for examination and dental cleaning.
